The Conservation Office will host a variety of exciting programs and activities in
Muse Fest HK 2025. From bookbinding workshops to booth activity, there will be a lot of fun for everyone—don’t miss out!

 

Programme 1: Binding Memories: Book Conservation & Bookbinding Workshop

 

 


Event Overview:
Bookbinding is a conservation technique to safeguards books by strengthening their structure, reducing damage from handling and shielding them from external elements, thereby extending their lifespan.  This special workshop aims to demonstrate different bookbinding techniques, care tips, and preservation methods. Join our workshop.  Create and bind your own scrapbook to capture memories and anniversary mementos.

Programme 2: Throw into the Conservation Spectrum

 


Event Overview:
The Conservation Office will organize booth activity on Nov 1 -2 in Muse Fest HK 2025. Through the interactive game, the public could decipher the agents of deterioration, the root causes of damage and key aspects of cultural heritage preservation as well as how museum conservation works to safeguard the artefacts.  Come enjoy a playful learning experience while discovering the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.

Programme 3: Where A Thousand Years of Craft Meet Modern Science - Xiangyunsha

Event Overview:
Xiangyunsha (Gambiered Canton Gauze), a unique silk fabric known as the "soft gold" of textiles, is a living heritage of Lingnan culture. The dyeing and finishing craftsmanship of xiangyunsha was inscribed as a national intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in 2008 to ensure its preservation and transmission. The workshop will introduce the history and culture of xiangyunsha traditional craftsmanship, as well as its weaving structure and dyeing process from a scientific perspective. Under the guidance of the instructor, participants will have the opportunity to make scented sachets using xiangyunsha fabric, allowing them to appreciate the charm of this ICH.
