Muse Fest 2022 - Conservation Office Events Highlights

 

Conservation Office organized fun events in this year of Muse Fest HK 2022.　In the highlighted programme"History x Film x Conservation - Boundless Classics" on 12 and 13 November, we joined hands with curators from the Museum of History to share conservation work of selected key exhibits and their cultural context in "Here we talk: Behind-the-scenes in Conservation of Joyous Destiny: A Selection of Wedding Memorabilia from the Museum's Collections + Demonstrations".  Demonstration counters were arranged after the talk to show the traditional craftsmanship of gold thread embroidery, letterpress printing as well as the offspring chamber pot in full size 3D printed.

 

We also organized two sessions of "Create and Preserve your own album workshop + conservation lab visit" on 19 November. Our conservators not only introduced their fundamental tips for preserving photographs in the workshop, but also demonstrated and worked together with participants to produce their own album that could be kept for at least 500 years by using all archival grade materials.     

 

Participants also visited the conservation laboratories in the Hong Kong Museum of History to learn about the conservation of paper and metal materials first-hand.
